Our New Appointment System

Our Appointment System Is Changing…

From Monday 14 May 2018 we are changing the way our appointment system works.

Due to increased pressures on access to our appointments, we have reviewed our system and decided to make some changes which we feel will improve patient access and your pathway of care.

How Will It Work?

A receptionist will need to ask you for details of the problem you are calling with, this is to enable us to direct you to the most appropriate person to deal with your problem.

Whatever you say will be treated in the strictest confidence

You may not always need a face to face appointment with a GP/Nurse at the surgery, you may be offered a telephone consultation, extended access appointment or directed to one of our local Walk In Centres

Telephone Advice/Face to Face Appointment/Pharmacy Advice

For minor symptoms less than 3 days old, we would encourage you to consult your local Pharmacy or see our Self Care section on our website You may be offered an appointment with the Extended Access Service or directed to a local Walk In Centre

We have a mix of Face to Face appointments and telephone appointments and reception need to offer you the most appropriate appointment to deal with your problem.

Please be aware telephone reviews do not mean you will be given a face to face appointment with a GP, it is purely to monitor your progress.

Ongoing Review

Not all patients will need to have a face to face appointment with a GP. If your GP has started you on treatment, they may ask you to arrange a routine telephone review with them to discuss how you are. These appointments can be booked via reception or SystmOnline.

  • Routine results—a telephone call will be booked within 3 weeks
  • Some results will require a telephone call to be booked within 10 days which a receptionist will book for you

Sick Notes

You can complete a self-certificate for the first 7 days of your illness. If you require a further sick note you will need to telephone the surgery

It can take up to 48 hours for your GP to process your sick note, however sick notes can be backdated

Periodically your GP will need to speak to you for a review but you will be advised of this before your next sick note is due

For safety reasons we do not take prescriptions over the telephone. If you have a query regarding your prescription, please telephone reception after 10 am as our telephone lines are much quieter.

Prescriptions can be ordered in the following way:-

  • By post
  • Face to face at the surgery
  • Via SystmOnline—see reception for information on how to register for this service.

Referral Queries

If you have a question or problem with a referral to Hospital, please telephone reception and ask to speak with one of our Secretarial Team.

Medication Reviews

If you have been advised that you require a medication review before your next prescription can be issued, you will be offered a telephone appointment or face to face

Appointment with our Clinical Pharmacist or a GP***

***If ordering your repeat prescription via SystmOnline, if you find you cannot re-order your prescription and are advised to speak to your GP, please use the “make custom request” box to inform us which medication you require. This is a system wide standardised response, the surgery will notify you when your medication needs to be reviewed
